I am running for Ashland School Board because in this time of financial crisis, Ashland School District needs experienced leadership working for our community.
With over a decade of public sector management experience, I bring expertise in:
-
Bringing large institutions back into financial compliance
-
Correcting revenue projections for long-range planning
-
Linking dollars spent to key outcomes
-
Repairing and building partnerships
-
Sharing information in formats that are accessible to the community
Managing for Success
Ashlanders should be proud of our public schools, but in this moment, we are facing multiple crises. Nationally, the Federal Government is threatening to eliminate the Department of Education and is cutting critical funding for students. Locally, Ashland's School District faces its own serious financial challenges with a multi-million dollar deficit that is projected to get worse.
This race is about effective management, and we must be diligent about every dollar we spend to give students the best chance to succeed – both now and into the future.
As a school board member, I will partner with families, staff, and community organizations to:
-
Right-size our budget and fund our values.
I will work to change how we present financial information, so the Board and community can easily track where dollars go and what their impacts are.
I will work to clearly define what student success means for our district, identify the core services that contribute most to that success, and ensure those services are funded.
-
Build enrollment pipelines
I will work to link young families to our school system earlier by establishing Early Learning programs and pre-K programs that feed directly into our Kinder Start.
I will work to re-engage families that left the public school system during COVID by creating pathways for homeschool and online students to re-connect with our district through sports, extracurriculars, and à la carte classes.
-
Focus on student needs
Keep the School Board focused on its key roles to better serve student needs: evaluating the superintendent, providing financial oversight, monitoring the district's performance, setting the district vision and policy direction, and listening and responding to community concerns.
With Ashland schools facing multiple crises, now is not the time for business as usual. I have the proven skills to protect our District's budget, protect our teachers and staff, and most importantly, to protect our students.
I humbly ask for your vote.
In service,
Jordan
